Kamene Okonjo, 82, retired professor and mother of
the internationally acclaimed economist and minister, Okonjo Iweala, was
dropped off on a main road near her home, Delta state.
It is not clear if Mrs Okonjo, 82, was held for
political or financial gain, although hitherto, the kidnappers demanded for a
ransom of $1billion.
According to a reliable source, perhaps her captors
had decided to let her go because they were under pressure.
The army and police have been on their trail and a
lot of raids have been done. Thus, they had to let go of her when they could no
longer contain the heat.
Dozens of people were reportedly detained on
Thursday during the search for Mrs Okonjo.
The Finance Ministry spokesman, Paul Nwabuikwu,
confirmed her release.
He also testified that Okonjo Iweala had been
threatened recently before the abduction of her mother.
