LAMIDO’S SON RELEASED ON BAIL

The EFCC has granted bail to Aminu, the eldest son of the Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who was recently arrested for money laundering.

Aminu was arrested on Tuesday at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Kano, MAKIA, for alleged money laundering. He was caught with $40,000 (N7.5 million), an amount which is in excess of the authorized $10,000 allowed by law for travellers leaving the country.
However, in a statement broadcast on Radio Jigawa, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kyari Madamuwa, he said Aminu was going to use the money to offset the hospital bills of his daughter lying critically ill in a Cairo hospital.
Kyari frowned at the level of publicity the story has generated, saying that it was the handiwork of the opposition to distract the governor.
Also, the National Association of Northern State Students Unions, NANSSU, accused politicians opposed to Lamido’s presidential ambition in 2015 of being behind Aminu’s arrest.
NANSSU Secretary General, Comrade Ado Shehu, said in a statement that it was an attempt to tarnish the governor’s image.
Meanwhile, The EFCC spokesperson, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said the commission was still working on the case to ensure Aminu’s early prosecution for the financial crime because he was freed on administrative bail as there were no judges available to take his plea today due to “judges conference” taking place in Abuja.
